Massage is simply touch. By use of the hands, fingers, elbows
and forearms, we can achieve relaxation, relief from pain and
improvement in function. We at Heart in Hand Massage & Wellness
believe in a true multi-disciplinary approach to our treatments
and may use any or all of the following to achieve an appropriate
plan for our clients.
Swedish massage is the most familiar to many
people. It is the basis of most relaxation massage, the warm-up
of sports and Deep tissue work and Injury recovery massages. There
is oil or cream used to aid in the application of pressure to
the skin. This technique is relaxing and takes about an hour for
a full body treatment. Pregnancy massage is a Swedish technique.
The purpose of this treatment is to relieve the discomforts of
the pregnancy during all phases; 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
We are able to relieve back pain and hip discomfort using gentle
strokes and stretching. We can even let you lie on your stomach
right into your 9th month with our special Body cushion! Our therapists
Matt & Joanne are certified in Pregnancy massage and Matt
is a Registered Nurse with 15 years experience.

Hot Stone Therapy incorporates aspects of Ayurvedic
medicine and treatment for the dosha or condition called Vata.
Vata is literally "In the air" and this treatment is
used to ground the individual and provide deep relaxation. We
use Ocean harvested stones of various sizes and heated to the
client's comfort. This allows deeper massage work with increased
comfort and improved blood flow. During the massage, stones of
various sizes and weights are placed upon or under the body and
between the toes, to achieve relaxation and heat penetration to
these areas. We also incorporate crystals, specifically Amethyst,
Citrine, White Quartz and Lapis lazuli to balance and effect the
chakra system. Toning with a drum, Tibetan cymbals and Obsidian
chimes complete this treatment. Shirodara can be added for a truly
magical experience. This involves the application of warmed jojoba
oil to the forehead at the level of the "third eye"
for up to 5 minutes as a balancing and beginning point for the
massage.
Basic Treatment 1 hour $75.00
Full Treatment 1 ½ hours $110.00
Basic Deep Tissue massage involves the same
movements as Swedish, but incorporates deeper pressure to areas
of tension on the body like the shoulder or back. The technique
does involve oil or lotion, sometimes heat or ice for comfort,
and the removal of some clothing for proper attention to the skin
and underlying muscles. The treatment is not meant to be relaxing.
All the therapists at Heart in Hand have basic deep tissue skills.

NeuroMuscular Therapy is an advanced Deep Tissue
technique used to identify nerve and muscular entrapments with
pain patterns and release them. This treatment involves deeper
strokes to the effected areas of the body, trigger point treatment,
and treatment of the connective tissue layer called "myofascia".
Homework and a commitment to improving pain and function are required
for this treatment to be successful. A series of treatments is
usually needed to achieve the goals that are set with the first
session. Matt is a Judith Walker-Delany certified Neuromuscular
therapist (American Version)

Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese form of massage
therapy performed classically on a mat upon the floor but also
upon low tables. The body is assessed and the problems are addressed
through the use of warm-up strokes called kenbiki. This treatment
is performed completely clothed. The therapist addresses specific
complaints by pressing points along lines on the body. The effect
is upon the local muscles and tissues as well as the energy system
that feeds them. An entire treatment is generally one hour in
length. Lou was trained at the Boston Shiatsu School and Reena
at Providence Shiatsu School. Both have been practicing since
1994.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Vodder) is a healing
treatment for the Immune system of the body. It involves assessing
areas of swelling or edema and addressing the Lymphatic system
with light touch and massage strokes to push the fluid back into
the circulation and effect great changes in the body. Especially
useful in clients after Cancer surgeries, mastectomies and crushing
injuries of the limbs in which the fluid balance is no longer
correct. People with severe acne or chronic sinus infections can
also benefit.

Traditional Thai Massage is a 2500-year-old
treatment used by the monks to achieve lotus position for long
periods of time. The sessions are long.... 1 ½ hours to
3 hours in length and involve a therapist placing the client in
various stretches and yoga asanas (positions) with breathing to
achieve a balanced core musculature and chakra system. Performed
upon a futon on the floor, fully clothed, the treatment is at
once grounding and spiritual. It can benefit the athlete and the

KinesioTaping Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The first technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance. The second technique helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps provide facilitation of lymph flow 24 hours per day. It is most commonly used in the acute stage of rehabilitation. Correctional techniques include mechanical, lymphatic, ligament / tendon, fascia, space, and functional. Kinesio Tex Tape can be used in conjunction with other therapies, including cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage therapy, and electrical stimulation.
Kinesio Taping affects the activation of neurological and circulatory systems. Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms. Consequently, so much attention was given to the importance of muscle function that the idea of treating the muscles in order to activate the body's own healing process came about. Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that muscles and other tissues could be helped by outside assistance. Employment of Kinesio Taping creates a totally new approach to treating nerves, muscles, and organs.
Since the introduction of Kinesio Taping into the US, medical practitioners from PTs, ATCs, OTs, DCs, MTs, to MDs have recognized and embraced this effective, safe, and easy-to-use modality. The method and tape allow the individual to receive the therapeutic benefits 24 hours per day because it can be worn for several days per application. Currently, Kinesio Taping is used in hospitals, clinics, universities, high schools, and by professional sports teams.
